Aided by the barrage of participants from the provinces, the final tally of entries to the "NFGB National Bakbakan 11-Stag Derby" may hit 4,300 as the super stag series goes today at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
More than 80 fights kick off today at Araneta, beginning at 3 p.m., afterwhich the semifinal round follows immediately tomorrow.
As of yesterday, 4,100 entries were listed with three more remaining national eliminations: Nov. 21 (Araneta); Nov. 24 (San Pedro Coliseum in Laguna) and Nov. 25 (Pasay City Cockpit).
Ricoy Palmares Jr., president of the National Federation of Gamefowl Breeders (NFGB) said that several finalists to the grand championship on Dec. 5 at Pasay Cockpit are fielding additional entries today to fortify their chances for the title.
"As early as last week, majority of the finalists are already in Manila to prepare for the Bakbakan. It's a grand battle of champions," said Palmares.
The championship schedules for entries with 5, 5.5 and 6 points: Nov. 30 (Roligon); Dec. 1 (Araneta) and Dec. 2 (Pasay Cockpit). Those with 6.5 and 7 points will see action on Dec. 5.
Meanwhile, semifinal rounds will also be held today at San Jose Mega Cockpit (Batangas Breeders Club) and Bacolor Cockpit (Kapampangan Gamefowl Breeders Association (KGBA).
Supporters of the 2011 ‘Bakbakan’ are B- Meg Derby Ace, Thunderbird Enertone, Ninja Feeds, Sagupaan Superfeeds, Supremo, Belamyl, Washout Shampoo, Excellence and Salto Feeds.
